Bell UH-1Y Venom EXPERT kabuki masks 1:48 is the most extensive level of New Ware masking templates for a model of the American multipurpose helicopter.
Responsibility details are not available.
New Ware grades its masking sets by extent, and the designation EXPERT means the widest of them. While the basic level deals with the main glazing, the more extensive form goes further, adding to the frames further small areas that would be the hardest to mask by hand. The carrier is thin kabuki paper, which adapts well to curves and leaves no adhesive behind once lifted off.
The UH-1Y is a modern American multipurpose helicopter derived from the legendary Huey family of machines. Against the older forms it received a pair of engines, a four-blade main rotor with composite blades and modernized avionics, so it kept the silhouette of its predecessors while technically being a different machine. It arose within a program that in parallel brought an attack version with the same main units, which made maintaining the two types side by side easier.
Paper templates will take a careful stretch over a curve, but they must not be overstretched; an overstretched template springs back once the paint has dried and tears the edge away. Run a stick over a template once it is stuck down, from the center toward the edges, so that no air is left under it. It proves worthwhile to spray first a thin layer of paint matching the inside of the cockpit, which will close any leaks, and only then to apply the top shade. Lift them off at a slight angle, not straight upwards.
