1:48 Bf 109 E-7: cuts for the frames of the angular canopy of the Emil. The cockpit is made up of flat panes in a stiff frame, so every builder will appreciate a straight edge.

A set of cuts for the framing of the cockpit canopy of the Bf 109 fighter in the E-7 version, 1:48 scale. The Emil has a canopy made up of a fixed windscreen, a hinged middle section and a rear cover; all the panes are flat and the frames between them run in straight lines. A straight edge is exactly what tape outlined by hand can never manage entirely without a wobble.
Over England the Emil had one fundamental weakness: only a few minutes of combat time were left to it over the target. The E-7 version therefore received a pylon under the fuselage on which a drop tank could be hung, markedly extending the range, or a bomb in its place. A fighter with limited reach thus became a machine usable for attacks on ground targets as well. Power stayed in the hands of a V engine with direct fuel injection, thanks to which the Emil did not lose power under negative g, a great advantage over its carburetted opponents.
The frames of the Emil are narrow, so seat the cuts with tweezers and press them down with a wooden stick, not with a fingernail. Apply the shade of the cockpit first and the top color once it has cured. Mask the armored front windscreen separately, because its frame is thicker and will not take the same pressure as the thin dividing strips in the middle section.
