A set of masking templates for the glazing of the Messerschmitt Bf 109 in the G-14 version for the 1:48 Hasegawa kit. The parts included cover the glass from outside and inside, so the frames come out sharp from both views.
Responsibility details are not available.
The G-14 version came about in the second half of 1944 out of a simple need: until then the Messerschmitt Bf 109 had been built in so many small variations that spare parts from one line did not fit a machine from another. The G-14 was to be that common denominator. It received the DB 605 engine with injection of a methanol and water mixture, which for a short while raised the power considerably at low levels, and with it the characteristic wooden vertical tail of enlarged shape on the later examples.
Over the cockpit this version got a light sliding cover with a single large undivided pane, known after its maker as the Erla Haube. There are fewer frames than on the older Gustavs, but they are thin and precisely drawn. That is where a build rushed with a brush shows: every overflow of paint on such a narrow profile is visible at first glance and can practically not be painted over.
The parts are cut into self-adhesive film and follow the shape of the frames of the kit concerned. They are applied to degreased glass, pressed down with a wooden stick and sprayed over in the usual way. The set also holds parts for the inner surfaces, which will be appreciated by anyone building with the cover open, because the inner framing is then just as conspicuous as the outer. Once dry, the film is peeled off with tweezers.
