Photo-etched parts for building the Messerschmitt Bf 109E-4 and E-7 in 1:48 scale. The metal elements replace molded detail with surfaces of a true sheet metal thickness.

An accessory for building the German fighter Messerschmitt Bf 109 in the E-4 and E-7 versions in 1:48 scale. The set belongs to the photo-etched parts family, so these are elements etched out of thin metal sheet and held in a fret by small tabs.
The E-4 and E-7 versions belong to the late forms of the series, for which the nickname Emil became established. The E-7 received a pylon under the fuselage on which a jettisonable drop tank or a bomb could be hung, which widened the range of the aircraft's tasks beyond the pure fighter role. Both versions flew in the period when the Bf 109 was the main German single-seat fighter.
Injected plastic has a thickness that cannot be reduced below a certain limit, so belts, buckles, grilles or instrument panels come out oversized. Etched metal has a thickness of hundredths of a millimeter and looks right in scale. The edges are moreover sharp and the finished surfaces hold paint well.
Cut the parts off with a sharp blade on a hard surface, not with nippers, which bend the metal. Level the remains of the tab with a fine-toothed file. Make the bends over the edge of a bending tool or at least of a steel ruler, so that a straight line is created and not a curve. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue applied on the tip of a pin. Before painting, wash and degrease the metal, otherwise the paint will not hold.
The package contains the photo-etched parts described in the instructions. The kit, paints and glue are not part of it, unless stated otherwise.
