This is an add-on set of photo-etched metal in 1:48 scale from the Czech maker Eduard, intended for detailing the forward fuselage of the Boeing B-17G Flying Fortress heavy bomber. The set is not a model and not a kit; it is added to a plastic kit you already have. On this type the nose interior is an extremely visible place, because it can be observed through the extensive glazing, and plastic execution there usually stops at simplified shapes with no instruments and no conduits.
The nose of the B-17G housed the navigator's and bomb aimer's stations together with a defensive position. The space was densely fitted with instrument panels, conduits, brackets and a map table, and it is precisely this density of equipment that makes the nose the most rewarding place to detail. A model of the bomber with an elaborate nose interior reads quite differently from the same kit built without accessories, because the viewer's eye automatically heads for the glazed section.
Assemble and paint the interior parts before you glue the fuselage halves together. It pays to try the position of the panels dry and, if necessary, to adjust the seating surfaces inside the plastic part. Bend the long straight parts in a bending tool, so that the edge stays sharp along the whole length. Glue with superglue in minute amounts; excess wicks into the detail and fills it. Clean the dust out of the cockpit before glazing; once it is glued in, the space can no longer be cleaned. Bring the finished interior out with a dark wash and a fine dry brush on the edges.
The set is an accessory for a model, not a kit. The model, glue, paints and tools are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
