About product

Eduard 1:48 Bristol Beaufort Mk.I undercarriage photo-etched set

This set from the Czech manufacturer Eduard focuses on the landing gear of a Bristol Beaufort Mk.I model in 1:48 scale. The gear bays and the legs are among the places where the plastic from the box is simplified the most: the structure of the walls, the runs and the fine fittings are missing. Photo-etched parts in thin metal fill this area out without any need to rebuild anything. The set is not a kit and it cannot be used without a plastic model.

The real subject

The Bristol Beaufort was a British twin-engine aircraft intended for attacks with torpedoes and bombs against shipping targets; the Mk.I version used radial engines of British manufacture. The machine had retractable landing gear with the main legs hidden in the engine nacelles, so once the model is finished the bays and the legs are clearly visible from below, especially if the model is displayed on a shelf at eye level.

Building and painting tips

Cut the parts out with a sharp scalpel on a hard surface and level the remains of the tabs with a fine file. Make the bends along the scored grooves, ideally in a photo-etch bender or between two steel blades; shape the small fittings with tweezers. Degrease the metal and glue it with super glue applied with a pin. Apply an adhesion primer before painting. It is more practical to paint the inside of the bays and add the photo-etched parts before the nacelles are closed up, because then you can reach into the space comfortably and there is no risk of damaging surfaces that are already finished.

Who the set is for

  • Builders of the Bristol Beaufort Mk.I in 1:48 scale
  • Modelers bothered by the simplified gear bays from the box
  • Anyone interested in British aircraft of the Second World War
  • Builders with experience of photo-etched parts and super glue

The set is an accessory to a kit. The kit itself, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

The landing gear area of the model, that is the legs and the bays, where the plastic from the box tends to be simplified the most. According to its name the whole set is aimed exactly there.

Best before the engine nacelles are closed up. You can reach into the open space comfortably and there is no risk of damaging surfaces that are already finished.

It is not. This is an accessory photo-etched set for a plastic kit of the Bristol Beaufort Mk.I in 1:48 scale.
