About product

British Browning Mk.II machine guns in 1:48 scale, eight pieces, Brengun

A set of eight resin castings of the British Browning Mk.II aircraft machine gun. Eight pieces in one package is no coincidence, as that is exactly how many of these weapons British fighters of the first half of the war carried in their wings. The castings have a cleanly rendered body of the weapon as well as a thin barrel, which injected plastic at this scale usually only suggests or leaves as a shapeless cylinder. The set also suits showing open gun bays or a diorama with the weapons laid out beside an aircraft. It is not a model of an aircraft but an accessory to one.

The real subject

The Browning Mk.II is the British version of an aircraft machine gun in a caliber matching the British rifle, that is, 7.7 mm. It was the standard machine gun of British fighter aviation at the start of the Second World War. Its strength lay not in the individual caliber but in numbers: British fighters carried eight of these weapons at once and relied on density of fire. The same type also appeared in the defensive positions of bombers. It was later gradually replaced by cannons of larger caliber, but in the period of the Battle of Britain it was absolutely basic armament.

Building and painting tips

First wash the castings in lukewarm soapy water so that the mold release agent from the mold is removed. Cut the casting blocks off with a fine-toothed saw or a new scalpel blade and never break them, as a thin barrel would snap. Keep sanding to a minimum and do it wet with your airways protected. They are bonded with super glue, as cement for plastic will not join resin. Apply a primer before painting, and the body of the weapon then looks good in a dark metallic shade with a dry brush on the edges. If you leave the weapons exposed in the wing, light grubbiness around the muzzles works well.
