A set of resin protective covers for a plastic kit of the Grumman C-2 Greyhound in 1:48 scale. The abbreviation FOD stands for foreign object damage, that is the risk that a stone, a tool or another object from the surface is drawn into the engine. The covers are therefore fitted on a real aircraft over the intakes and openings of the powerplant whenever the aircraft is standing. Quickboost is an accessory line from Aires aimed at simple parts that are fitted without intervention in the structure of the model. The set is not a model of an aircraft.
The Grumman C-2 Greyhound is a twin-engine turboprop aircraft intended to carry cargo and personnel to the decks of aircraft carriers. In design it comes from the same family as the carrier radar surveillance aircraft, with which it shares the basic arrangement of the wing and the powerplant, but it has a widened fuselage with a cargo compartment and a rear ramp. Both on deck and ashore it often stands for longer periods, so the covers belong to its ordinary look on the ground.
Wash the castings in warm water with detergent and remove release agent residue. Cut the casting blocks off with a scalpel or a fine saw and sand the cut wet. They are glued with cyanoacrylate. The covers are usually painted in a striking high-visibility color so that they show up on the apron, and are completed with tags and lettering. Try the part dry before gluing; the shape of the intake differs slightly between kits and sometimes the edge has to be sanded back. Fit them only onto a finished and varnished model, otherwise they get in the way during further work and break off easily. A light wash into the folds suppresses the impression of a stiff casting.
This is an accessory, not a kit of an aircraft. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise. Please make sure beforehand that the set matches the kit you want to build.
