Gun bays for the Canadair CL-13 Sabre Mk.4 in 1:48 scale from the manufacturer CMK is a set that opens the forward fuselage and reveals the mounting of the machine gun armament. It is not an aircraft model but an accessory to the Airfix kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
An add-on set for the Airfix model of the Canadian Sabre in 1:48 scale. To be clear right away: this is not an aircraft kit but a detail set that replaces the closed forward fuselage with an open gun bay holding the mounting of the machine guns. The model thus gains a view inside of the kind that on a real aircraft only mechanics saw during maintenance, and that tends to be the strongest element of a displayed model, because an open bay breaks up the otherwise smooth silhouette of the fuselage.
A standard kit has the nose closed and the panels are only suggested by an engraved line. The set brings replacement parts cast with internal detail: the walls of the bay, the mounting of the weapons and the hinged covers, which are glued to the model in the open position. Count on it being an intervention in the plastic, because the original panel is cut out of the fuselage.
The Canadair CL-13 Sabre was the licensed Canadian production of the American F-86 Sabre fighter. The Mk.4 version was among the most widespread and in the 1950s it was operated in numbers by the Royal Air Force as well, until home types replaced it. The armament consisted of large-caliber machine guns mounted along the sides of the nose and reached through hinged panels, and that is exactly the part of the aircraft the set opens up. The Sabre was the first production Western fighter with a swept wing and in a modeling display case it stands well for the beginning of the jet era.
First mark the outline of the panel that is to be removed precisely on the fuselage, and only then cut, best with a photo-etched saw or by repeated scoring with a knife along the engraved lines. Cut out less rather than more and finish with a file. Wash the parts beforehand to remove the remains of the mold release agent, cut the casting blocks off with a scalpel and sand wet with protection for your breathing. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Paint and weather the inside of the bay before it is fitted into the fuselage; a wash in the corners and fine oil traces do more than any further detail. Glue the covers on at the very end, once the varnish is finished, so that they do not break off while the model is handled.
The set is an accessory to a kit, not a stand-alone model. It is cut for the Airfix Sabre Mk.4 kit in 1:48 scale, so please check the compatibility against the kit you have.
