Big Ed is not a kit but a combined package of accessories. In it Eduard brings together several of its separately sold sets that are tied to one particular kit and offers them in a single box. Typically it is a combination of etched parts for the interior as well as the exterior and a masking set; the exact make-up of a particular package is given on the packaging. The aim is to lift the detail of a model in one step where injection-molded plastic is simplified by its very nature.
The Curtiss P-40 Warhawk was an American single-engined fighter of all-metal construction with a liquid-cooled V12 engine, recognizable by the characteristic radiator under the nose. The N version is one of the late forms of the line and was built in large numbers. Compared with earlier versions the work went mainly into reducing weight and modifying the equipment, which was reflected in details of the cockpit and the glazing as well. That is exactly why the particular version has to be watched when choosing accessories, as sets for earlier forms need not fit.
The etched parts are thin and springy. Cut them out with a sharp scalpel on a hard surface and do not break them out. Bend them in a bending tool or between two blades so that the edge is sharp. They are bonded with super glue applied with a pin, or with glue meant for photo-etch. A primer is necessary before painting, otherwise the paint will not hold on smooth metal. Apply the masking pieces to perfectly degreased glazing and spray the paint in thin coats so that it does not creep under. Plan the order of work in advance, as most of the interior parts have to be finished before the fuselage is closed.
