An injection-molded plastic model of the Russian wheeled amphibious reconnaissance vehicle BRDM-2 in the late configuration, in 1:35 scale from Trumpeter. The box holds a detailed hull, the small turret and rubber tires; photo-etched parts are included as well.
The BRDM-2 is a Soviet wheeled amphibious reconnaissance vehicle with all-wheel drive and with small auxiliary belly wheels for crossing ditches. In water it is driven by a water jet, so it can cross water obstacles under its own power. The late version differs from the early machines in, among other things, the details of the engine compartment ventilation covers and the mounting of the armament in the turret. The vehicle was widely used by many armies.
On this vehicle it pays to assemble and paint the chassis, the belly wheels and the lower hull before the body is closed. Bond the plastic parts with liquid modeling cement for plastic and the photo-etched parts with super glue (cyanoacrylate); fit the tires only after painting. On an amphibious vehicle, watch for a clean transition at the waterline when building it into a diorama with a water surface. Apply a primer before painting, spray the color with an airbrush in thin coats and fine-tune the patina with washes and pigments.
