A double-sided masking set in 1:48 scale for a model of the de Havilland Vampire aircraft from the Airfix kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
A pre-cut masking set drawn for the Airfix kit in 1:48 scale. The Vampire was a British jet aircraft recognizable at first glance by its short fuselage nacelle and its pair of tail booms; its glazing has prominent framing that is hard to mask by hand.
The set is double-sided, so it contains shapes for the outer and the inner side of the glazing. The inner masks have a practical point: the frames can be sprayed in the cockpit color from inside, and the shade at the joint of the two sides then does not show through anywhere. The result is a sharp transition without overruns, which tape cut to measure achieves only with great patience.
Wash and degrease the glazing first; a mask will not seat on a greasy surface. Lift the individual shapes with tweezers, lay them on the frame and press them down with a blunt toothpick all around the perimeter. Lay the paint on in several thin coats; a heavy coat builds a ridge at the edge that stays visible even after the mask is lifted. Take the mask off while the paint is freshly dry and pull it at an angle across the edge, not straight up.
The box holds a masking set. The kit, paints and varnishes are not included, unless stated otherwise.
