A decal sheet from the Hungarian manufacturer HAD models in 1:48 scale for models of the early versions of the Messerschmitt Bf 109 fighter, the B and D-1 variants. The sheet brings the period markings of these prewar machines, which differ from the later versions both in their form and in their layout. It is neither a kit nor a finished model: it is an accessory in its own right for a model built from a separately sold set.
The B and D versions were among the first series-built Bf 109s. They were powered by an inverted V12 Jumo 210 engine of lower output than the later units, which matched a slimmer nose and a different arrangement of the radiators. The armament was lighter than on the later variants and the machines were built with two-blade and three-blade propellers alike. It is precisely the simpler shape of the nose and the smaller cowling that make the early versions a clear contrast on a modeler's shelf to the later machines of the G family.
The base has to be smooth and glossy: once the camouflage is finished, spray the model with gloss clear coat so that the edges of the film do not silver. Cut the design out as close to the printing as possible, dip it in lukewarm water for a few seconds and let it rest until it begins to slide freely on the backing. A decal softener will help draw the film onto the engraved lines and the fabric surfaces of the control surfaces. Once dry, seal the model with a matte or semi-gloss varnish according to the character of the period finish.
