A cut self-adhesive Eduard masking set in 1:48 scale for the British Boulton Paul Defiant Mk. I fighter. It is not a kit or a model in its own right but a set of precisely shaped masks in thin yellow masking tape (kabuki). The masks cover the framing of the glazed cockpit and make it easy to spray the glazing cleanly; depending on the contents of the package they also serve to cover the wheels. The parts are cut exactly to the shape of a particular kit, so there is no trimming of tape by hand.
The Boulton Paul Defiant was a British two-seat fighter of the Second World War, a so-called turret fighter. All its armament was in a powered dorsal turret with four 7.7 mm machine guns; the aircraft had no fixed forward-firing guns. It was powered by a Rolls-Royce Merlin engine. Against unescorted bombers it was successful at first, but against agile single-seat fighters it was vulnerable, so it found a second career mainly as a night fighter.
First remove any grease from the glazing. Lift the mask off the backing, place it on the frame and press it down so that it adheres without wrinkles. Then spray the color of the framing with an airbrush in thin coats so that it does not creep under the edge of the mask. Once dry, peel the mask off carefully at a sharp angle.
The package holds only the masks. The model, paints, glue and decals are not included, unless stated otherwise.
