A detail set in 1:48 scale aimed at the landing gear of a model of the Su-34 combat aircraft. This is not a kit but an accessory for a plastic model. Metal landing gear legs have two advantages over plastic ones: a more accurate and finer shape, and above all a stiffness that tells at once on a larger and heavier model.
The Su-34 is a two-seat combat aircraft derived from the Su-27 design family, with the crew seated side by side and a characteristic flattened forward section of the fuselage. Against the fighter versions it has a higher takeoff weight, which was reflected in strengthened landing gear; the main legs carry wheels arranged in tandem, so that the load is spread better.
A metal leg carries the weight of the model and the joint is loaded as a lever, so glue with epoxy or thick superglue gel and let it cure with the model supported so that the legs stay at the right angle. Always make a dry fit; matching the angles of both legs up is very visible on a twin-engine aircraft with a wide track. Degrease the metal and lay a primer on, or the paint will flake off a smooth leg during handling. The legs look more faithful in a light gray to muted metal shade; leave the oleo struts glossy and do not paint them. Suggest dust and mud with pigment only on the lower parts, sparingly.
This is an accessory for adding detail to a plastic kit, not a model of its own. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
