A figure of a donkey with a harness in 1:48 scale. What sets it apart from the basic version is precisely that the animal is rigged for hauling or for carrying a load, so it brings activity into the scene and not just scenery. This is not a kit, but an accessory that is added to a finished model or to the base of a diorama.
A rigged animal calls for context of its own: a cart, a load on its back, a figure beside the bridle, a field track or a yard. It comes into its own in scenes where the supplies are kept moving by animals and not by vehicles, that is, in mountain, country and Mediterranean settings. At the same time it is a rewarding element of the composition, because its long silhouette leads the viewer's eye across the scene.
Rinse and degrease the figure before painting, cut the casting residue and the gates off with a sharp knife and sand the surface lightly. Match the glue to the material; on small resin parts cyanoacrylate works well. Primer is a necessity. Paint the coat from a darker base and pull a lighter shade dry across the back and the flanks. Set the harness apart in color: the leather straps tend to be dark brown, and the metal buckles are picked out with a fine rub of a metallic shade. A brown wash into the folds and a final matte varnish will give the whole thing depth.
The figure is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Paints, glue and the base are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
