1:48 English Knight

What the figure offers

This is a figure of an English knight, that is an armored medieval fighter, rendered in 1:48 scale. An adult figure around 175 centimeters tall comes out at roughly 3.6 centimeters in this scale, so count on a small piece where the painting decides the result more than the assembly. The exact period, the equipment and the pose of the figure are not set by the name; the manufacturer gives those details.

Where it can be used

On its own it shows to advantage on a base in a display case, where the whole silhouette is visible. In a subject you can use it in another way too: a figure gives a scene scale and a story, and all at once it is clear how tall a building or the terrain around it is. Painting a small figure is at the same time good practice in transitions of shade, because everything essential happens over a few square centimeters.

Building and painting tips

• cut the excess material off with a sharp blade a little way from the part and sand the remainder
• wash the figure in lukewarm soapy water before painting and let it dry through
• choose the method of gluing according to the material of the parts; the procedure is given in the manufacturer's instructions
• apply a base coat, otherwise the paint will not hold on the smooth surface
• lay the paint on in thin coats so that the fine relief is not filled in
• on armor a dark pooling shade into the hollows and a dry brush on the edges work well

Who it is for

For collectors of historical figures as well as for diorama builders looking for a figure in a smaller scale. Given the size, count on working under a magnifier and with fine brushes; for a beginner it serves as a small piece on which to try the procedure before reaching for a larger figure.
