This item is not a model of an aircraft but a tiny detail set. It contains resin replacements for the position and navigation lights of the Starfighter for a model in 1:48 scale, in the form corresponding to the late version. Lights belong among the parts that an injection mold manages only roughly: they tend to be simplified in shape and blend with the surrounding surface. The Quickboost casting replaces them with parts with sharper edges and a cleaner shape, which come across more convincingly once painted.
The Lockheed F-104 Starfighter was a supersonic fighter with a very thin trapezoidal wing of small area and with a T-tail. It was powered by a General Electric J79 jet engine with an afterburner. The type went through a long development and license production with a number of European and Asian users, so the details of the airframe differ between the early and the later series - and that is exactly why the maker of accessories distinguishes an early and a late version. The position and navigation lights belong among the small things that changed between individual series and users.
Wash the parts in lukewarm water with detergent, so that paint holds on them. Cut the casting blocks off with a sharp scalpel or a fine saw - with parts this small it pays to work over a tray and to have tweezers at hand. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue, that is super glue, ideally applied with the tip of a toothpick. Cut the original plastic shapes off the model carefully and level the area. The color effects can be fine-tuned with clear paints in shades of red, green and white; the set is usually installed at the end of the build, after the model has been sprayed and varnished.
The set is supplied unpainted. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
