The F-104 Starfighter is an American single-engine supersonic fighter which you will recognize at first sight by its slender fuselage and its very short, thin wing. Its cockpit is cramped, so the instrument panel and the side panels make up most of what is visible at all under the glazing on a finished model. It is precisely there that it pays to devote time to detail.
The set brings color three-dimensionally printed elements of the fitting out of the cockpit, that is, the instrument panel, the side panels and further small things of the interior. The elements have a plastic relief, so the knobs, the levers and the bezels of the instruments stand up above the surface and, once stuck down, look like real equipment and not like printed paper. The set is tied to the kit of the Kinetic brand in 1:48 scale.
The elements of the QD series have no adhesive layer of their own. The part is cut out, soaked in lukewarm water for about 15 seconds and slid off the carrier paper into place; do not use decal softener or setting solution on them, as it would damage the printed resin layer. The mention of decal paper in the name therefore fits, as the paper is the carrier of the print. Work with tweezers and a pointed toothpick, first slide the element into place, line it up and only then press it down and draw the water off.
Before sticking them on, rid the surfaces in the cockpit of dust and grease, sand the more pronounced unevenness down and go over the surface with a gloss varnish of the Future, Klear or Tamiya X-22 type, on which the element holds most reliably. As a rule, level the original plastic detail of the kit under the film, or the element will ripple. Paint the surrounding walls of the cockpit and let them dry perfectly before you start working with water.
The kit, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
