A resin insert for the forward part of the fuselage for the American F-111D version in 1:48 scale, together with a set of three-dimensional decals for the instrument panels and the side consoles. The version is prepared for the Academy kit, which sets it apart from the similar set intended for a different base model.
The F-111D was an attempt to move the type into a new generation of electronics. It was given a set of instruments and displays that differed from the older machines so much that the look of the crew station changed as well. Operating this avionics turned out to be demanding and the version was built in limited numbers, which makes it all the more interesting for a modeler who enjoys the differences between the individual sub-versions of the family. Anyone building several machines side by side gets a cockpit here that differs from its neighbors at first glance.
After washing the parts and cutting the casting blocks off, it is best to paint the whole thing in a dark base and to pick out the edges of the covers and the handles with a lighter shade. The decals are applied onto a gloss surface with the help of a softener, so that they settle into the recesses. At the end a matte overcoat and fine dust in the corners work well. Everything is fitted before the nose is closed up, as otherwise all that is left is the view through the canopy.
