An accessory set of exhaust nozzles for a 1:48 model of the F-14A Tomcat carrier fighter, rendered in the open position.
Responsibility details are not available.
The F-14A Tomcat was a two-seat carrier fighter with a variable-sweep wing. Its engines sat in widely spaced nacelles, and the flat center section of the fuselage between them carried the ordnance. The exhaust nozzles change area with the engine setting, so their position on one and the same aircraft differs from photograph to photograph.
The set replaces the exhaust nozzles of a 1:48 model and, according to the name, is rendered in the open position. At this scale you can see deep into the nozzle, so every difference in edge thickness and in the finish of the inner surfaces shows. The set solves this part of the tail as a whole, with no need to build up the inside by hand.
The parts are not polystyrene and are bonded with super glue. Cut the excess material away with a sharp blade a little short of the part and sand off the rest. Wash and degrease the nozzles before painting. Spray the inner surfaces before the set is seated in the nacelles, because afterwards you will not reach them. Apply metallic shades in thin coats and compare the staining toward the end of the nozzle with photographs of the particular aircraft, as it varies a great deal with hours flown.
The set suits modelers who want their Tomcat finished at the rear as well, and especially where the model is displayed at eye level. The work involved is limited to two parts. The kit itself, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
