A set of pre-cut painting masks for the Tamiya F-14D model in 1:48 scale. It covers the glazing of the two-seat cockpit while spraying, so that the framing stays sharp and equally wide along its whole length. It is not a kit or a finished model but an accessory for painting. The double-sided version means that the sheet contains masks for the outer and the inner side of the glazing; on this aircraft with its long canopy the inner sides of the frames are clearly visible.
Degrease the clear part and let it dry completely. Take the masks out of the sheet with a scalpel or tweezers, lay them on the frame and press them down with a wooden toothpick all around the perimeter. Trim any overhang past the edge of the part with a fresh blade along the outline. Cover the surrounding areas with tape. Spray the paint in several thin coats with a short flash-off in between. Lift the mask right after it is dry to the touch and pull it back at an angle over itself so that the edge of the finish does not chip. With a double-sided set the inner side is sprayed in the interior shade first.
The F-14 Tomcat is a two-seat twin-engine carrier fighter with a variable-geometry wing. The D version was given more powerful engines and modernized avionics and was the last production form of the type. The crew cockpit is covered by a long canopy, and masking it with tape by hand takes a lot of time.
The mask is an accessory, not a kit. The model, paints, glue and thinners are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
