The set from the Czech brand Aires is a resin replacement for the cockpit of the two-seat F-15B Eagle in 1:48 scale. It is not a kit of the aircraft but an accessory that is fitted into a suitable plastic kit in place of its original interior. Cast resin allows considerably crisper definition of the instrument panels, side consoles, seats and cockpit walls than can be achieved in injection-molded plastic. Before buying, check that the set matches the kit you want to build.
The F-15B is the two-seat combat-capable trainer version of the McDonnell Douglas F-15 Eagle fighter. The second seat is placed in tandem behind the pilot and takes up space that on the single-seat version serves for fuel and equipment. The aircraft is powered by a pair of turbofans, and the airframe has a high-set wing with a large area and twin vertical tail surfaces. The layout of the cockpit differs in details between single-seat and two-seat Eagles, and that is exactly why separate add-on sets exist for the two-seat versions.
First wash the parts in lukewarm water with detergent, so that mold release agent residue disappears. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a cutting disc, not with cutters: resin is brittle and cracks easily. Sand wet and with respiratory protection. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue; where you need time to set a part in place, a thicker gel version helps. Always try the fit dry, as it is usually necessary to thin the inner walls of the fuselage halves. It is painted with an airbrush over a primer; the instruments and consoles come out after being brought up with a dry brush and a dark wash.
The add-on set is supplied unpainted. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
