A detailed accessory set of wheel bays for the General Dynamics F-16C Fighting Falcon fighter in late form, in 1:48 scale. The set is made by direct 3D printing from resin and replaces the plastic bays with richly detailed parts – the nose wheel bay and the main wheel bays with the fine structure of hoses, wiring and stiffeners. This is not a model of an aircraft in its own right, but an upgrade for a kit.
The wheel bays are clearly visible on a model with the landing gear extended, and injection-molded plastic usually lacks detail in them. 3D printing allows a realistic rendering which, once painted and picked out, markedly lifts the impression the finished model makes.
Wash the parts free of uncured print resin residue and separate them from the print supports. Bond them with super glue (cyanoacrylate), and sand with respiratory protection. Paint the bays in a base white or light gray, pick out the hoses and cables in a different shade and add a fine wash for depth.
