An injection-molded plastic kit of the American fifth-generation F-35B Lightning II stealth fighter in 1:48 scale from the Japanese manufacturer Tamiya. It is a modern mold with faithful surface engraving and with the radar-absorbent material suggested. According to the instructions the model can be built in three configurations: parked, during a short takeoff and during a vertical landing, with the nozzle angled accordingly and the lift fan door raised.
The F-35B is the variant of the Lightning II intended for short takeoff and vertical landing (STOVL). Behind the cockpit it has a large lift fan and a swiveling engine nozzle, which allow it to operate from short decks and improvised surfaces. As a fifth-generation machine it puts the emphasis on reduced radar signature and advanced sensors.
Decide on one of the three positions in advance, because it affects the assembly of the nozzle and the fan. Finish the cockpit before closing the fuselage, mask the clear canopy and bond it after painting. Fit the external stores according to the armament load you choose. Join the parts with liquid cement, treat the surface with a primer and apply the low-reflectance gray shades with an airbrush in thin coats.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
