1:48 F-4 E/EJ Phantom II, canopy frames outside and inside. The two-seat cockpit comes out sharp from both views.
Responsibility details are not available.
Stencils for the frames of the two-seat cockpit of the Phantom II in the E and EJ versions in 1:48 scale. They are cut for both sides of the glazing, so the frames come out sharp even when looking into an open cockpit.
The E version can be told from the older Phantoms at first glance by its lengthened nose with a smaller-diameter radar and by the fairing with a rotary cannon under it. Later machines received slats on the wing leading edge, which improved behavior in a tight turn. The letters EJ belong to Japanese machines built under license for the air force there; the airframe stayed identical to the E version, the equipment and armament differed. The cockpit has two separate hinged sections of canopy and a windscreen made up of several panes with massive posts.
The thick glazing of the Phantom lets the inner frames be seen clearly and their shade differs from the exterior finish. The procedure that works is this: first lay the pieces on from inside, spray them in the cockpit color, and only then deal with the outside and the camouflage. Degrease the transparent parts beforehand and hold them by the edges. Apply the paint in several light passes, because one generous coat creeps under the edge and the frame loses its sharp boundary.
