A set from the SPACE decal range by the Czech manufacturer Eduard. It is neither a kit nor a finished model, but an accessory that raises the standard of the interior. The SPACE range is built on decals printed in three dimensions: the film carries not only the printing but relief as well, so the instrument panel and the side consoles look three-dimensional without any need to sand anything away or fabricate it. Check the package contents and the extent of the set on the box.
The F-4G Phantom II was a specialized machine for the suppression of enemy air defenses. It was created by converting the two-seat F-4E version: in place of the onboard armament in the nose it received a suite for locating and targeting emitting radars, and its crew worked with anti-radiation missiles. In service the designation Wild Weasel took hold for this role. That is exactly why the cockpit of the F-4G differs from ordinary Phantoms, as it holds instruments and controls the other versions do not have, and they are clearly visible under the open canopy of a model.
Three-dimensional decals are applied differently from ordinary waterslide decals, because they have a thickness of their own. The surface underneath should be smooth and clean, so first rid the part of dust and grease. Moisten only the backing paper with a sponge and a drop of dish soap, lift the element off with tweezers and seat it on a drop of PVA glue (white glue), as moving it once it has dried is no longer possible. Do not use a decal softener or a decal fixer, as they would attack the printed resin and ruin the element. Finally unify the interior with matte varnish, which subdues the sheen of the film and brings the surface closer to a real cockpit.
