The F-86D is the interceptor version of the American Sabre jet, meant for all-weather combat. It is told from the day fighter version at a glance by its hefty nose: above the air intake it carries a radome, so the intake is set lower and is oval. Its armament consisted of unguided rockets housed in a retractable tray in the fuselage; the machine had no cannon. Among modelers it therefore counts as the most distinctive form of the whole Sabre family.

Photo-etched parts have a thickness in tenths of a millimeter, so mesh, covers, clips and small plates look like real sheet metal rather than a thickened plastic molding. The extent of the set, that is which parts of the machine it covers and whether the parts are color-finished, is given only in the instructions in the package. In the same way, check in the instructions which kit the set is built for, because photo-etched parts are seated into particular shapes.
The parts are held on the carrier sheet by thin tabs. Cut them through with a sharp blade on a hard surface and sand the remains of the tab off. Make the bends in a bending tool or between the smooth jaws of pliers, always along the scored line and in one movement. Wash and degrease the metal before painting and lay on a base color meant for metal, or the shade will rub off in handling. The parts are bonded with super glue in a tiny amount, applied with the tip of a wire; cement for plastic has no effect on metal.
The kit, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
