Die-cut stencils from the brand Eduard for the glazing of the F2A-2 Buffalo carrier fighter in 1:48. The TFace version means that the package holds stencils for the outer and the inner side of the canopy.
The Brewster F2A was the first monoplane carrier fighter of the US Navy. The F2A-2 version of 1940 received a more powerful engine and a better propeller and served with carrier squadrons until newer types pushed it out. A stubby fuselage with short wings earned the machine a reputation as an unwieldy aircraft; in Finnish service, however, it did considerably better than in the Pacific, which makes it a rewarding subject even for modelers who otherwise build only famous types. The Navy expected the machine to replace biplanes, and in its day it was a clear step forward; the development of fighters ran so fast, though, that the aircraft grew obsolete within a few years.
The cockpit of the Buffalo is small but intricate, and the frames have sharp corners that tape cut by hand hits badly. The stencils match the shape of the part and cut the preparation down to a few minutes. Kabuki tape also follows the curve of the canopy well and does not pull the paint off when lifted. On small cockpits inaccuracy has nowhere to hide: a frame a tenth of a millimeter too wide is visible at this scale, all the more when the rest of the model is done carefully.
