A plastic kit of the Mi-24 attack helicopter in 1:72 scale. It is a separate boxing with artwork of its own and a decal sheet; which markings the sheet carries is given bindingly on the packaging. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted.
The Mi-24, under the NATO reporting name Hind, is a heavy attack helicopter from the Mil design bureau. It differs from most comparable machines in that, besides its armament, it also takes a troop compartment in the rear of the fuselage — a combination of attack and transport machine that was unique at the time it came about. Its characteristic features are the elongated fuselage, short stub wings with stores stations, retractable landing gear and, on the later versions, tandem cockpits for the pilot and the operator under separate canopies. The machine entered service in the 1970s, went through a range of upgrades and in various versions serves to this day with dozens of users all over the world, among them European armed forces.
On a helicopter in this scale the result is decided above all by the glazing and the rotor head. Mask the cockpit canopies with tape or with masks and glue them in only after the interior is finished — more can be seen inside than it seems. Paint the main rotor blades separately and fit them at the end, so that they do not get in the way during handling. The landing gear legs and the stores stations under the wings are small and easily broken off, so leave them for the end of the build too. Spray camouflage transitions with an airbrush at low pressure, apply gloss clear under the decals and unify the finished model with matte clear; a fine wash into the panel lines will do a helicopter more good than heavy weathering.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
