A detail set of exhaust stacks made by direct 3D printing in resin. It is meant for models of the carrier-borne Grumman F4F-3 Wildcat fighter in 1:48 scale and replaces the less faithful plastic exhausts from the base kit. Thanks to 3D printing the stacks have sharp edges, thin walls and hollowed-out outlets, which are hard to achieve with injection-molded plastic.
The F4F-3 was an early version of the famous Wildcat, the first modern carrier fighter of the US Navy to go into action at the beginning of the war in the Pacific. It was powered by a Pratt and Whitney radial engine and its exhausts came out along the sides of the fuselage behind the engine cowling.
Wash the print resin residue off the parts in lukewarm soapy water. Separate the print supports carefully with a sharp knife or a saw and glue with cyanoacrylate glue. The outlets of the exhausts can be drilled out slightly for an even more faithful look and brought out with a dark wash and a hint of rust.
This is a detail accessory, not a stand-alone model. Paints, glue and the base kit are not included in the package.
