The clear canopy from Rob Taurus matches the late shape of the Corsair cockpit, that is, the blown sliding hood with a minimum of framing. This is exactly what sets the F4U-1D apart from the early aircraft, which carried the heavily framed canopy known as the birdcage.

Bent wings over the Pacific

You know the Corsair by its inverted gull wing, which made it possible to use an enormous propeller and still keep the landing gear legs short. Early machines had the pilot sitting low and the view when settling onto the deck was poor; on later versions the seat was raised and a blown hood with a better view was added. The F4U-1D subversion appeared as a fighter-bomber with pylons under the wing center section for bombs and unguided rockets, and it became one of the most widespread combat versions of the type in the closing stage of the war.

Working with the part step by step

First find the edge on the model where the hood is to sit, and only then start trimming. Finish the sanding with a fine grit and polish the surface, or give it a thin coat of gloss varnish. When gluing, make sure the fumes do not get inside the cockpit; spot application and holding the part with masking tape until it sets will help.
