Replacement landing gear bays in 1:48 scale for the F4U Corsair. They replace the shallow bays from the original kit with an insert that has a three-dimensional interior relief.

The F4U Corsair is a carrier fighter recognizable at once by its inverted gull wing. It was precisely that crank that made it possible to use a large propeller while keeping the landing gear legs short. The main gear retracts rearward and the wheel turns through a quarter turn as it does so, in order to lie flat in the wing recess. The bays are therefore strikingly shallow and wide, and on a standing model one looks straight into them at close range.
The set replaces the landing gear bays from the original kit. In injection-molded plastic these tend to be smooth and without depth; here they have walls of their own and a three-dimensional relief of the internal structure. The original floor of the bay usually has to be cut out or sanded away for the insert to seat. Compare the extent of the work and the order of the steps with the manufacturer's instructions beforehand.
Cut the excess material away with a sharp blade a little from the part and sand the remainder. Wash and degrease the parts before painting. Try the seating dry and only then glue; with inserts into a wing the walls often need thinning from the back. Paint the interior while it is still freely accessible, as paint is hard to apply inside a finished bay. Choose the shade according to references for the particular machine. Bring out the corners with a dark glaze and go over the edges with a dry brush.
The set is for modelers who are bothered by empty bays on a standing model, and for a build on a stand or in a diorama where the model is also seen from below. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
