The LööK line set from the Czech manufacturer Eduard is not an airplane kit but a quick cockpit upgrade in 1:48 scale. It combines the two things the viewer sees most in a cockpit: a finished colored instrument panel cast in resin and photo-etched safety belts. The panel comes already printed, so the laborious painting of the dials and of the lettering falls away.
The resin casting of the panel has raised detail of the instrument boxes and bezels, onto which the color and the dials are printed. Clear covers over the instruments look realistic even under a closed canopy. The photo-etched belts can be bent and twisted, so they can be draped over the edge of the seat to give the impression of soft fabric. The result is noticeably livelier than a plastic panel with a decal.
The Grumman F6F Hellcat was a carrier fighter of the US Navy deployed in the Pacific from 1943. The F6F-5 version was the most numerous and carried a number of small changes compared with the earlier F6F-3. The cockpit has a typically dark interior, against which the light dials and the lighter belts stand out.
The panel usually has to be set in place of the plastic part, so first check dry how much material needs to be taken off the original bulkhead. Wash the casting in lukewarm water with detergent and glue it with cyanoacrylate glue or a drop of epoxy, which leaves time for positioning. Do not sand the printed surfaces and do not cover them with a solvent-based varnish. Shape the photo-etched belts with tweezers over a round rod; the bends work better if the part is gently smoothed with a fingernail.
This is an accessory for building the model, not a standalone kit. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
