The F/A-18C is the single-seat version of the American twin-engined carrier-borne multirole aircraft that serves fighter as well as attack duties. Its cockpit is among the first in which classic dial instruments gave way to screens, and together with the head-up display it forms a recognizable layout of the pilot's workplace. The designation for the early version refers to machines from the start of production, whose cockpit equipment differs from later aircraft.
The sheet carries colored 3D decals with relief of their own for the surfaces of the cockpit. They replace the flat decals from the kit and bring definition to the instrument panel, the side consoles and the cockpit walls, where individual controls and labels are visible as small raised features.
The parts are printed on a decal backing paper and have no adhesive layer of their own; a decal softener or a setting solution does not belong with them. Paint the cockpit with the base color first, let it cure fully, remove dust and grease from the surface and go over it with a gloss varnish of the Future, Klear or Tamiya X-22 type, on which the decal holds. Cut the part from the sheet, hold it in lukewarm water for about fifteen seconds and slide it off the paper into place. Seat it fully home, press it down with a cotton swab and on broken surfaces help it with a drop of cyanoacrylate glue.
The set is for modelers who build the Hornet in 1:48 scale with an open canopy and want a well-defined cockpit without laboriously painting individual instruments. Even a modeler who avoids photo-etched parts can manage it. The kit, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
