A resin detail set from Aires in 1:48 scale showing the exhaust nozzles in the open position for the Boeing F/A-18E/F Super Hornet carrier fighter. The set is made for the single-seat E version as well as the two-seat F version. This is not an airplane model but an accessory for a plastic kit. The cast parts replace the nozzles of the kit with a finer rendering.
The Super Hornet is an enlarged version of the carrier-based multirole fighter, powered by a pair of turbojets. The shape of the exhaust nozzle changes with the engine setting; the open, spread position matches a higher thrust state, typically on takeoff and at full power. The E version is single-seat, the F version two-seat.
Wash the parts to remove the mold release agent, cut off the casting blocks and align them with the rear end of the fuselage. Bond them with super glue (cyanoacrylate) and sand with airway protection. The inside of the nozzles comes alive once painted in heat-stressed metallic shades and lightly brought out with a wash.
This is a resin accessory for a kit. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package.
