1:700 DKM Z-39 Destroyer (For Dragon 7103)

Z-39 1:700 — an Artwox Model veneer deck

A small set of natural veneer with a self-adhesive layer and with the printed pattern of the planks, cut for the deck areas of a destroyer model in 1:700 scale. In extent it is one of the smallest veneer sets made, which matches the size of the real ship: against capital ships a destroyer has only narrow strips of wooden deck. Even so, it is a quick way to lift a model markedly. The set is designed for the Dragon 7103 kit.

The real subject

The Z-39 belonged to the German destroyers of later wartime production. These were fast vessels with gun and torpedo armament, intended for escort work, minelaying and operations in coastal waters. In design they were marked by a high bow and a fairly narrow hull. The ship survived the Second World War and afterwards still served in foreign navies.

Application tips

With parts this small the handling decides. Take the veneer out of the sheet with flat-jawed tweezers, never with your fingers: grease and even a slight bend show at once on a strip a few millimeters wide. Before you remove the film, lay the part on dry and remember its orientation; with narrow strips it is easy to turn them a hundred and eighty degrees and find out only once they are stuck down. Apply the pressure with the flat side of the tweezers or a wooden stick. Small gaps at the edges can be evened out after varnishing with a dark wash, which ties them optically to the neighboring plastic.

Who the set is for

• Modelers of destroyers and smaller ships in 1:700 scale
• Those who want to try a veneer deck on a small project
• Builders who work precisely and with tweezers
• Anyone interested in a quick accessory with a visible effect

This is an accessory to a plastic kit, not a model. The kit, glue, paints and photo-etched parts are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
