1:48 Fairey Gannet AS.1/AS.4 double-sided express mask is a double-sided mask set from the Art Scale brand for painting the glazing of a model of the Fairey Gannet in 1:48.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is not a kit but a mask set for a model of the British Fairey Gannet carrier-borne aircraft in the AS.1 and AS.4 versions in 1:48 from the Art Scale brand. The marking double-sided means that the set counts on masking the outer and the inner side of the glazing. The frames then look right when seen into the cockpit as well, which on the Gannet with its long, well lit canopy shows at first glance. The single-sided variant, which deals only with the outside, is listed separately.
The Fairey Gannet was a British carrier-borne anti-submarine aircraft of the Fleet Air Arm. It first flew at the end of the 1940s, entered service in the middle of the 1950s and was powered by the Armstrong Siddeley Double Mamba turboprop unit, a pair of engines coupled into one assembly which turned contra-rotating propellers. In flight the crew could shut one half of the powerplant down and so stay over a patrol area for considerably longer. A search radar radome extended under the fuselage, the cockpit was divided for a crew of three and the wing folded twice over for stowage on deck. The AS.1 was the first production version and the AS.4 received a more powerful powerplant.
The inner masks are placed before the cockpit is closed up, the outer ones only before the covering paint is sprayed. The surface should be clean and degreased and the edges pressed down carefully, so that paint does not creep under them.
