Photo-etched flaps for a Ki-61-II Kai model in 1:48 scale, intended for the RS Models kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Kawasaki Ki-61 Hien was a Japanese fighter of the Second World War and stood out among the Japanese machines of the day for its liquid-cooled engine, which gave it a slim nose and a silhouette closer to European fighters. The designation Ki-61-II Kai belongs to a later version of the design with a reworked airframe.
Photo-etched metal flaps for a Ki-61-II Kai model in 1:48 scale. According to the name the set is tuned to the RS Models kit. Flaps molded in one piece with the wing look thick on a model, and replacing them with thin metal is one of those changes that are visible from every angle. The exact range of parts is given in the manufacturer's instructions.
Replacing the flaps will usually not do without cutting the plastic flaps off the wing and cleaning up the opening, so follow the manufacturer's instructions and work in small steps rather than large ones. Cut the parts off the fret with a sharp blade against a hard surface and make the bends in a bending tool or over the edge of a ruler. Join them with super glue; cement for plastic has no effect on metal. Before painting, wash the metal, degrease it and spray it with a base coat intended for metal surfaces.
For modelers who want to build the Hien with its flaps lowered, whether on a display stand or in a diorama. Check against photographs whether the machine had its flaps extended in the situation you intend, so that the result makes sense. The kit, paints and glue are not part of the package, unless stated otherwise.
