A set of die-cut self-adhesive masks from the Czech manufacturer Eduard for models of the FM-2 Wildcat carrier fighter in 1:48 scale. It is not a kit or a photo-etched set but an add-on to a model: ready templates that during spraying protect the cockpit glazing and the other areas that are to stay clean. The TFace designation at Eduard means that the set covers the clear parts from both sides, so the cockpit frames can be painted from outside and from inside and the interior looks more believable.
The FM-2 Wildcat was a lightened version of the Grumman F4F carrier fighter, built under license at General Motors. Against the F4F-4 it received a single-row Wright R-1820 radial engine of higher power, a lightened airframe and an enlarged fin. It was intended above all for small escort carriers, where a short takeoff run and good climb were valued. It stayed in service until the end of the war in the Pacific.
The masks are peeled off the sheet with sharp tweezers or the tip of a scalpel and laid on a clean, degreased surface. Once applied, press the edges down with a wooden stick so that no paint runs underneath. Spray in several very thin coats: a heavy coat will create a step at the edge. Take the mask off while the paint has only just set, and pull it slowly back over itself rather than straight up. Use the inner masks before you seat the clear part in the fuselage.
