Bronze main landing gear legs for the FM-2 Wildcat model in 1:48 scale from the Czech manufacturer Eduard. A metal replacement for the plastic parts, not an aircraft kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
Cast bronze main landing gear legs for a model of the FM-2 Wildcat fighter in 1:48 scale. They replace the plastic parts from the kit. This is neither an aircraft model nor a complete landing gear; it is an accessory for a model you already own.
Metal carries the weight of a finished model without the risk that the leg will bend or crack over time, which does threaten plastic once resin parts and nose weight are added. A casting also holds a sharper shape in thin sections, which would have to be thickened in injection-molded plastic. With Wildcats this matters, because the landing gear retracted into the fuselage, so it has a narrow track and its legs are very visible on the model.
The FM-2 Wildcat was a lightened version of the carrier-based Wildcat fighter, built under license by General Motors. Compared with the earlier machines it had a lighter airframe, a single-row radial engine and an enlarged vertical tail. It served mainly from small escort carriers, where a short take-off run was valued.
First remove the casting residue with a saw or a fine file, not with cutters. Degrease the surface, otherwise paint will not hold on metal, and apply a primer intended for metal. Glue them with cyanoacrylate or with two-part epoxy, which gives you time to set the angle of the leg. Test the fit in the wheel well dry and widen the opening in the plastic if needed, until the leg seats without stress.
