An add-on set from the Czech manufacturer Eduard for 1:48 scale. The contents are resin parts aimed at the powerplant and the fuselage armament of the Focke-Wulf Fw 190A-7. They are fitted into an already built plastic model and replace its simplified sections with a more detailed version that will stand a close look and the sight under opened covers.
The Fw 190A-7 belongs to the late versions of the A series. It was powered by the air-cooled BMW 801 radial engine, to which the aircraft owes its characteristically wide nose cowling and its good resilience in combat. Against the older versions of the A series, the Fw 190A-7 received heavier 13 mm MG 131 machine guns in the fuselage in place of the earlier 7.92 mm MG 17. The engine and that pair of fuselage weapons above it are exactly what the set opens up to view.
First wash the resin parts with lukewarm water and detergent, so that residues of mold release disappear from the surface. The paint then holds considerably better. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a cutting disc, level the surface and do the sanding wet and with respiratory protection. The joints are made with cyanoacrylate super glue; on larger parts an accelerator helps. It is practical to paint the engine, shade it and fit it before the fuselage is closed. The cylinders and the accessories stand out after a dark wash is applied into the recesses and a light dry brush is used on the edges.
