A more extensive detail set in cast resin in 1:48 scale from the Czech maker Eduard. It replaces the powerplant of a plastic kit with an accurately cast resin assembly in which the detail of the cylinders, the exhaust pipes and the accessories is brought out. Sets of this scope suit above all builds with the engine cowling opened up, where the whole installation is on view. The package is an accessory for a plastic kit and does not contain the model itself. Check the contents before ordering.
The Focke-Wulf Fw 190 was a single-engine fighter with the BMW 801 radial engine. The F-8 version was the ground-attack form of the type, derived from the A-8 fighter series and adapted for attacks on ground targets - with reinforced protection of the lower airframe and with pylons for carried armament. The tightly cowled radial engine with a cooling fan behind the propeller is among the most prominent design features of the whole type.
First wash the castings in lukewarm soapy water. Cut the casting blocks off with a fine saw or a cutting disc, never snap them off - the thin parts of the cylinders crack easily. Protect your airways when sanding. They are glued with super glue only. Paint the engine in sections before assembly: a dark base shade, then a fine dry brush in a metallic shade on the edges of the fins and finally a dark wash into the recesses, which lights up the pattern of the cylinders. The exhaust pipes look good with a brown-rust pigment applied dry.
The set is an accessory for a plastic kit, not a model or a replacement for one. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
