This set holds photo-etched metal parts meant for refining the kit of the Ford T car in 1:48 scale. It is not a kit of the vehicle, nor a finished model, but an aftermarket accessory for the modeler who already owns the base kit and wants to give it detail of a kind that cannot be produced from injection-molded plastic. Hauler is a Czech maker of photo-etched and resin accessories, and the set is cut exactly for the RPM kit.
Injection-molded plastic has a technological limit to the thickness of a wall. Fenders, steps, brackets, clasps, grilles and catches therefore always look more massive on a plastic part than they did in reality. A photo-etched brass sheet runs in tenths of a millimeter, so once the original part has been exchanged the surplus bulk disappears and the model takes on a look that matches the scale. On a civilian car, where the body is simple and the eye settles on precisely these small things, the difference is especially easy to see.
Cut the parts out of the fret with a sharp scalpel on a hard surface, never break them out - bent photo-etch is hard to straighten. Level the fret tab remnant with a fine file. Make the bends over the edge of a bender or at least over the blade of a razor, always in the marked line. Before painting, degrease the metal with spirit and go over it with a primer meant for metals, or the paint will hold poorly on smooth brass. It is glued with super glue applied in a minimal amount, ideally with a pin or a thin piece of wire.
