About product

FuG 101 Radio Altimeter (3D print) 1:48

A finely 3D-printed set reproducing the antennas of the German FuG 101 radio altimeter in 1:48 scale. It is an accessory, not an airplane model; it serves to add the small antenna elements of the altimeter to the underside of the wings or the fuselage. The manufacturer is 3DF. Thanks to 3D printing the thin parts are fine and faithful, which increases the realism of the model.

The real subject

The FuG 101 was a German radio (radar) altimeter of the Second World War. It sent a signal to the ground and measured the flying altitude from its reflection, which helped above all over water, over mountainous terrain and on the approach. It was used on a number of German aircraft, among others on night fighters and multi-role types.

Building tips

  • Carefully separate the parts from the print supports and printing residue.
  • Before gluing, wash and degrease the surfaces to remove print resin residue.
  • Glue with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue).
  • The thin antenna elements are fragile, so work carefully.

Who it is for

Suitable for more advanced modelers of German aircraft who want to add faithful radio altimeter antennas.

The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted; the model, the glue and the paints are not included in the package.
