FuG 202/212 - radar aerials for the Junkers Ju-88C-6/R, early version from AML in 1:48 scale turn the heavy fighter into a night hunter with Lichtenstein equipment.
Responsibility details are not available.
This accessory from AML is devoted to the early aerials of the FuG 202 and FuG 212 radars for the Junkers Ju 88C-6/R heavy fighter in 1:48 scale. It is an extension of an existing model, not a complete kit - the added aerials replace or supplement parts that kits usually offer only in simplified form.
The C version turned the fast Ju 88 bomber into a versatile heavy fighter with fixed gun armament in a faired nose. Ju 88 C-6 machines operated over the Reich, the Mediterranean and the Bay of Biscay, and some of them received the early radars of the Lichtenstein series at the beginning of 1943, which let them search out British bombers even in complete darkness. The installation of the aerials differed from machine to machine on the first conversions, which today gives modelers a rewarding field for individual projects.
Before gluing, track down a picture of the particular machine and check the arrangement of the dipoles against it. Glue the aerial supports according to the diagram enlarged to scale, so that all the dipoles sit at the same angle. Finish the inside of the faired nose before you fit the equipment, because once it is glued on you can no longer reach it. Glue the aerials on with cyanoacrylate onto a painted model and touch the joints in with a drop of paint if needed; protect the nose with soft padding when transporting the model, as the projecting structure is vulnerable.
