An injection-molded plastic model of the German fighter Focke-Wulf Fw 190D-9, nicknamed Dora-9, in 1:48 scale from the Czech maker Eduard. This is the long-nosed Fw 190, which differs from the radial-engined versions at first glance in its extended nose and the different shape of the fuselage.
The Fw 190D-9 appeared in 1944 as a higher-performance version of the proven Focke-Wulf Fw 190 fighter. In place of the radial engine it received a liquid-cooled inverted V12 Junkers Jumo 213A, which forced an extension of the nose; for balance the rear fuselage was lengthened by an inserted section. The characteristic annular radiator at the nose meanwhile makes the aircraft look optically closer to the radial-engined machines. The Dora-9 is usually counted among the best German piston fighters of the end of the war. Its armament consisted of a pair of machine guns above the engine and cannon in the wing roots.
Glue the plastic parts with liquid modeling cement for plastic and fill and sand the joints if needed. Apply a primer before painting and lay the paints on with an airbrush in thin coats. Late aircraft tended to have broken-up camouflage schemes and mosaic fuselage finishes — it pays to mask the transitions and to pick out the panels with subtle shading and a wash.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
