This is a masking accessory, not a kit. The set contains self-adhesive masks cut to the shape of the parts of a model of the Gotha Go 242B transport glider in 1:48 scale. It replaces cutting masking tape by hand, which with glazed areas is time-consuming and never comes out entirely precise. The masks are cut to measure for the parts of the particular ICM kit, so before you buy, check that you are building exactly that one.
The Gotha Go 242 is a transport glider with a high wing, a load-carrying fuselage and tail surfaces carried on a twin-boom layout. The forward part of the fuselage has extensive glazing divided by a row of frames, and that is the most laborious place on a model. Masking such an area by hand takes hours and one crooked piece of tape is enough to make a frame uneven. Pre-cut masks shorten the whole step to minutes and the frames come out equally wide all the way round.
Degrease the glazing before masking and let it dry completely. Seat the mask with tweezers, align it to the frame and press the edges down carefully with a toothpick so that paint cannot creep under them. First spray the interior color and only then the primer and the exterior camouflage, otherwise the frame will show bare plastic through from inside. Apply the paint in thin coats. Remove the masks as soon as the paint has set, slowly and back on themselves rather than straight up. If paint did get under an edge after all, correct it by scratching with a toothpick while it is fresh. Adhesive residue is removed with alcohol on a cotton bud, but carefully and away from painted areas.
This is a masking set for a model, not a kit. The model, paints and clear coats are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
