The set from the Czech manufacturer Eduard contains photo-etched metal parts intended to work up the interior fit of a model of the Grumman F-14A Tomcat carrier-based fighter in 1:48 scale, in the version matching the later production series. The focus on the interior is given in the name — the set therefore aims at the cockpit of both crew members. It is not a kit but a detail accessory for a model that you obtain separately.
The F-14A is a two-seat carrier-based fighter with a variable-geometry wing, two engines and a tandem cockpit for the pilot and the weapons systems officer. The design was made for operation from aircraft carriers, that is with robust landing gear for hard arrivals and with an arrestor hook. The later production series differ from the early machines in a number of technical details. Thanks to its two seats and extensive glazing the cockpit of the Tomcat is very clearly visible, which makes it the logical place for further work.
Finish the interior before you close the fuselage up — once it is glued you will not reach into the cockpit. Cut the photo-etched parts off with a scalpel on a hard surface and make the bends on a bending tool or between two razor blades. Glue with cyanoacrylate glue applied with a pin, and degrease and prime the metal before painting. Leave the seat belts slightly curved over a round object, so that they do not look like stiffened tape. On the instrument panels a dry brush once the paint has dried suits the emphasis of the edges, and a drop of gloss varnish suits the dials.
The set is an accessory for a kit, not a model in its own right. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise. Check the match with the model you are building before buying.
