Injection-molded plastic kit of the British experimental record-breaking aircraft Fairey Delta FD.2 in 1:72 scale from Dora Wings. It is a modern short-run tooling with fine engraved detail; the package contains plastic parts, photo-etched parts, masking film and decals for several marking variants. Its unusual delta makes it a striking item in a collection of postwar aircraft.
The Fairey Delta 2 (FD.2) was a British experimental supersonic aircraft of the mid-1950s with a pronounced delta wing and a drooping forward fuselage for a better view on landing. In 1956 the pilot Peter Twiss was the first to exceed 1000 miles per hour in it and set a new absolute speed record. What was learned from its development later contributed to the concept of the delta aircraft that followed.
Short-run toolings call for more careful preparation: try the parts dry, clean up the casting remains and count on a little filling of the seams. Use liquid cement for plastic and finish the cockpit before closing up the fuselage; glue the photo-etched parts with cyanoacrylate glue. Mask the glazing and put the paints on with an airbrush over a primer. Apply the decals carefully onto a gloss coat. A clean, smooth surface without exaggerated wear suits a delta machine.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
